Forestania is an immersive experience where the visitor, equipped with bone conduction headphones, will activate, using a connected crank, the scenario of a landscape, composed of theatrical gelatin, gradually devoured by flames.

The fiction offered to the public is that of a forest fire simulator to prepare future wild camping tourists. Forestania is an installation that takes the form of an exhibition terminal equipped with an interface (crank) available to the public allowing the mechanical scrolling of a landscape projected from the inside onto the terminal's screen. A synchronization between mechanisms, light and sound is in place, all the narrative elements of the installation evolve together as the crank is turned.

This is a new variation of a certain principle of active public contemplation that we have already experimented with, among others, the immersive performance Au Jardin des potiniers. Forestania finds its inspiration in a trip to Montreal, in May 2023, during the forest fires that ravaged a large part of Canada. A glowing light and a suffocating atmosphere had invaded the city, giving it an unreal and apocalyptic aspect. There was a strange feeling of fear of the lurking fire, of the danger that surrounds us, that advances inexorably towards our perdition, revealing our helplessness in the face of this situation.

From this lived experience, imbued with this intense and blazing light, with this atmosphere imbued with death and beauty, we wanted to question this strange sensation of stupor, to bear witness to the posture of the disaster tourist. The landscape is revealed during a lateral tracking shot, between convolutions through the Canadian forest and 360° movement around a fixed point. In this scrolling, we take place and place of the ineluctable advance of this spectacle of destruction that is a forest fire. The bucolic atmosphere of this summer hiking landscape gives way, little by little, to tawny colors becoming garish, in an almost psychedelic experience, slow, beautiful, fascinating and terrible at the same time, the undulating nature of the flames bordering on abstraction.
