cube #17 - Viktoria Vanyi (HU/LU)

"Zwëschen Welten" is a luminous and sculptural installation exploring the intermediate spaces of identity, language, and belonging. Inspired by a childhood memory of a Goethe quote – "As many languages as one knows, so many times is one a human being.", the work reflects on how each spoken language reveals another self.

This dual presence – the word and its reflection – evokes the fragmented nature of diasporic identity: never fully captured in the present, always refracted by memory, migration, and interpretation. The work suggests that understanding, like belonging, is never immediate: it is indirect, relational, and shaped by our position. Thus, "Zwëschen Welten" becomes less a phrase and more a mirror: one of voice, distance, and the tranquil tension of life between what we say and what we mean.
