It's the carnival season, and in just 36 hours, the seemingly harmonious marriage of Fridolin and Albertine is disrupted and tested. General practitioner Fridolin loses himself in the Viennese night, amid patients and prostitutes, finally arriving at a clandestine masked ball. Albertine, staying home to tend to the child, experiences such adventures only in her dreams and thoughts—but these are intense. Their relationship is shaken by sudden wishes and desires they've kept suppressed and hidden from each other until now. In the novella published exactly 100 years ago by Arthur Schnitzler, much later adapted by Stanley Kubrick as 'Eyes Wide Shut', "no dream is entirely a dream." Fantasies appear as real as reality. This story oscillates between the conscious, the unconscious, and the wide expanse in between. In this stage adaptation, director Frank Hoffmann and an enthusiastic cast will delve deeply into Schnitzler's shadowy world.
