It's time to get your hands on some soft, squishy, stretchy SLIME!
Polymers make it possible to create some truly unusual materials—neither quite liquid nor quite solid. This week, we're exploring different polymers and the strange fluids they can create. It's slime, but maybe not like you've seen it before! Passionate about sustainable and eco-friendly science, you won't see your typical sticky slime made with petroleum-derived ingredients, toxic activators, and non-color additives. We'll be using entirely bio-based, sustainable, and non-toxic ingredients.
We'll explore polymers through hands-on exploration and see how they can transform water into fascinating fluids. We'll explore non-Newtonian fluids, gels, and flubber, and make our own slime with natural pigments and additives. Everyone will take home a pack of bio-based slime, which they can make at home using just water.
Together, we'll take a short walk through the forest, searching for natural polymers, and then to the slime station where we'll make and play with two types of bio-based slime. Get ready to get messy!
The workshop begins at 11 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. Adults are welcome (and encouraged!) to stay and participate. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.
