Topaze is a schoolmaster with impeccable civic virtues and a modest salary. He has just been dismissed for being too honest. Influenced by the examples before him, he gradually becomes dishonest and happy to be so. Under the influence of a woman and an unscrupulous municipal councilor, he ventures into the business world. Created in 1928, Topaze is Pagnol's first theatrical success. It is a great character comedy, the most classical and molieresque.
