Movie Club: A Special Day by Ettore Scola (1977)
As part of the Italian cinema panorama series, La Scala dedicates October's movie club to "A Special Day" by Ettore Scola, featuring Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni, and John Vernon (105 mins, Original Version with Subtitles).
In May 1938, all of Rome celebrates Hitler's official visit. Forced to stay home, the wife of a fascist activist meets a neighbor, a homosexual intellectual threatened with deportation. A portrait of two abandoned individuals, masterfully acted, who manage to steal a few moments of happiness during the darkest hours of history.
In partnership with the Italian Film Festival of Vilerupt, the Movie Club will be hosted by Stéphane Ory, director and programmer of La Scala, along with Alexane Adrian Muia and Alexandre Chakchem from the Buddy Double Association.
