Women Leaders Conference with artist Tamiko Thiel
Tamiko Thiel is an innovative media artist exploring the intersection of technology, space, and cultural identity. With degrees in engineering and design from Stanford and MIT, she has created influential VR and AR works. Her career includes the visual design of early AI supercomputers, the Connection Machine CM-1/CM-2, now part of collections at MoMA and the Smithsonian; collaborations with Steven Spielberg on Starbright World, the first metaverse for children; and groundbreaking VR art like Beyond Manzanar, the first VR artwork acquired by a U.S. art museum. Her work has been exhibited globally, including in Luxembourg at the Mudam Museum in the Radical Software: Women, Art & Computing 1960–1991 exhibition. Invited by Elektron, her AR installation Waldwandel/Forest Flux is currently on view in Belval, reflecting on ecological transformation.
