Our forests are in danger, and the time to act is now. That's why Greenpeace is bringing the Amazon to Luxembourg, and we hope to see many of you there!
The world's largest rainforest, the Amazon is home to millions of people, unique biodiversity, and plays a vital role in climate change. But in just 50 years, more than 17% of the area has already been destroyed, and we are approaching a tipping point where some areas could turn into savannah.
One of the main causes? Large-scale industrial livestock farming for the global market, including Europe.
The good news: A new European law, the Anti-Deforestation Regulation (ADR), initially scheduled to come into force at the end of 2025, could protect more than 8 million hectares by 2035.
The bad news: The food industry is lobbying to weaken and delay this law. Meanwhile, the EU wants to conclude a trade agreement with Mercosur, which would increase meat imports from Brazil, further fueling deforestation.
This year, world leaders will gather in the heart of the Amazon, in Belém, for #COP30. This is our chance to move from promises to action.
Join us on October 23 to call on Luxembourg to reject the EU-Mercosur agreement and defend the EUDR. Let's demand concrete action to respect the Amazon: no delays, no compromises.
