Rivers are much more than just waterways: they shape landscapes, preserve ecosystems, sustain communities, and permeate memory and symbolism. In ancient myths, they were considered constellations stretching across the earth. Amazonian peoples call them the mirror of the sky, in which the stars are reflected on their surface.
This work is part of my ongoing project on the Sûre River.
I grew up by this river and many members of my family still live on its banks. Its calming presence is part of our daily lives.
The photos were taken during repeated visits to the same place where, as a child, I often sat to read.
I imagine the river as a celestial being whose surface sparkles like distant galaxies and which connects landscapes and the past to the present.
A metaphor for the passage of time.
