The Hellenic Culture & Dances Club invites you to a unique two-day dance workshop on the traditional dances of the South Dodecanese islands, led by dance instructor Giannis Lentakis:
Giannis Lentakis was born in Rhodes in August 1965. He hails from Olympos, Karpathos, where he spent his childhood and teenage years. From a young age, he was involved with the traditions of Karpathos, learning to play its traditional instruments — the lyra, the laud, and the guitar. He also started dancing the traditional dances of Karpathos early on, thus gaining hands-on experience as an experiential dance instructor. He has participated in numerous CDs produced by the Archive of Greek Music and other publishers. He teaches traditional dance in various clubs in Rhodes, sharing the experience and unique character of the dances of Karpathos and the Dodecanese. Since 2006, he has taken part in many seminars both in Greece and abroad, as an instructor of the dances of Karpathos and the South Dodecanese.
The workshop will take place on Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 November at Centre Culturel de Cessange (1 Rue St Joseph, 1838 Cessange).
On Saturday 15 November at 20:30 a traditional dancing event from the Greek islands with live music will follow with Savvas Perselis (on the lyra) and Giannis Lentakis (on the laud), at the same venue.
