Who composes? Who plays which instruments? As part of the rainy days contemporary music festival, Rimini Protokoll (Nachlass, 21-22) poses these questions with humor and finesse. The German collective presents a musical piece where fitness equipment, borrowed from the world of self-improvement, is transformed into musical instruments on stage. Making music thus becomes a matter of warming up one's muscles. The Songs of Push and Pull were composed specifically for these unexpected instruments, which are played by men and women whose rehearsals have consisted of fitness sessions. These are people from Luxembourg who may never have given a concert in their lives, but who, thanks to their regular training, have a good understanding of their tendons and muscles.
