Conference: Marie-Paule Molitor-Peffer
The gynecologist Marie-Paule Molitor-Peffer often wondered why people in Luxembourg knew so little about sex and sexuality. Over time, she noticed that people were afraid of not having the appropriate vocabulary to express themselves in Luxembourgish. She also observed a significant sense of shame associated with the subject, which, for this doctor, was clear: "Because a certain conservatism in this country forbids speaking about sexuality."
Co-founder of Family Planning, she never allowed her voice to be silenced. On one hand, to ensure that facts could finally replace outdated moral concepts, and on the other hand, to inspire people to raise their voices.
Anne Schaaf, in her master's thesis "When the Unspeakable Becomes Speakable – Sexual Education on RTL Radio Luxembourg in the 1980s," examined how these taboos were broken. On November 19, the historian will present her key conclusions.
