Literary Tuesdays - Meeting with Jean Portante
Once or twice a month (always on a Tuesday), the Lëtzebuerg City Library invites literary authors to present their novels and read excerpts from their works, followed by a discussion with the audience and a book-signing session. On the programme for the Literary Tuesday of December 16: Jean Portante, “La panthère parfumée”.
With “La panthère parfumée”, Jean Portante offers an intimate journey through absence, memory and the fragility of life. His poems revolve around the absence of the mother, the invisible traces she leaves behind, and the tireless search for words capable of expressing what slips away.
Born in 1950 in Differdange to an Italian immigrant family, Jean Portante is today one of the most important voices in contemporary Luxembourgish literature. The author of more than 30 works - novels, essays, and plays - he writes mainly in French, but also in Italian and Spanish. His work, translated into many languages, explores themes such as migration, identity and linguistic boundaries.
