Michele Ruol, an anesthesiologist, combines his profession with work as a playwright and storyteller. He has published short stories in magazines and anthologies; his play "Betulla" was produced by Piccolo Teatro di Milano and published by Il Saggiatore. With his debut novel, "Inventario di quel che resta dopo che la foresta brucia" (TerraRossa, 2024), he was selected as a finalist for the 2025 Strega Prize and received the Dante Prize of the Dante Presidi Letterari worldwide.
