The directing duo Sabine Auf der Heyde and Holle Münster have adapted Miranda July's successful novel for the stage, with an all-female artistic team, including the well-known actresses Fritzi Haberlandt and Meike Droste. The latter was already seen in Thierry Mousset's production of Süden at the Grand Théâtre in the 2019/20 season.
In midlife, the protagonist of ON ALL COURTS throws all conventions overboard. She leaves her familiar surroundings, moves into a motel, and there embarks on a radical experiment in self-discovery. Three weeks filled with ecstasy, control, desire, emptiness—and an unexpected transformation. The central question is: What does it mean to live in a society that often renders women invisible during menopause?
July's novel offers a bold, unfiltered answer. With full force, she addresses what it means to break free from societal expectations, redefine female desire, and reclaim one's own identity.
