Solo exhibition by Ronny Delrue
Ronny Delrue is a keen observer of the fragility of human existence, and even more so of consciousness when it is wounded by trauma, or simply destined to disappear. His portraits form a gallery of shadows that he paints and draws in an almost obsessive manner. Hollowed out or blurred by the traces and reminiscences of memory, his canvases carry within them a number of tragic events that go by the names of loss of identity, psychological confinement, and episodes from our past and present histories of war and family. Ronny Delrue redraws the threads of our destinies with his brushstrokes and marks his paintings with color and punch marks. Bullet holes or splatters of blood, the identification of these black or red brushstrokes is unclear. Ronny Delrue's opaque heads speak of the passing of time. His landscapes feature an exhausted tree bending under the weight of its fruit. His architecture depicts a Romanesque church silhouetted against the sky. Through his lines, Ronny Delrue seeks to give body and contour to our amnesia, like a glimmer of light mysteriously passing through a crack in a door.
