In a Cornish fishing village, hope has long since faded until the morning when a boat appears in the old harbor. The Rose of Nevada, lost at sea with all its crew three decades earlier, is back. For the few who still remember, it is a clear sign: the ship must go back to sea if the village’s curse is to be broken. Nick (George MacKay), struggling to support his family, signs on as a crew member, joined by Liam (Callum Turner), a newcomer eager to escape his past. Four years after the surprise of Enys Men, Mark Jenkin’s new O.V.N.I. offers a total sensorial experience, with an image quality that is both raw and spectral, accompanied by a narrative form close to the dreams of fragmented fantasy. An intimate drama carried by the strange poetry of reality.
