In contemporary Kyrgyzstan, a series of interwoven stories exposes the patriarchal structures fueling violence against women. A young woman secretly working as a camgirl falls victim to blackmail by a corrupt policeman. Her cousin, a dedicated student, is assaulted by the son of a powerful politician and is forced to navigate a system that offers her no protection. Meanwhile, a renowned television journalist and ardent defender of gender equality finds her own position compromised by close ties to the political elite. From its opening scene, Kurak delivers an uncompromising critique of systemic oppression. Striking images of real women's rights protests give way to daily accounts of violence and political corruption. A necessary call for justice that will continue to resonate long after the end credits.
