With Canto III, drummer-composer Matthieu Chazarenc continues the open world he began with Canto (2017) and Canto II (2021): cinematic jazz with classical, Gascon, and Latin influences. His compass points south, between Spain, the Mediterranean, the Orient, and as far as the Caribbean. He composes real songs without words, by turns nostalgic, rebellious, or radiant, always captivating. Supported by a quartet built on friendship, summed up by the Basque word Lagun, he is joined by loyal companions: Christophe Wallemme on double bass, Sylvain Gontard on flugelhorn, and Laurent Derache on accordion. Canto III celebrates roots, the call to adventure, and the power of connection—with spice, warmth, and inspiration.
