After Frankenstein last season, the Karyatides company is once again deploying the poetic universe and technical mastery of object theater that has made it so successful in Europe. Its new creation plunges us into the most intimate and intense depths of Raskolnikov's consciousness. The main protagonist imagined by Dostoevsky in Crime and Punishment (1866), this penniless student murders a malicious old moneylender to assert his moral superiority in an unjust and perverted society. Aware of the atrocity of his crime, plagued by remorse and delirium, the young man is convinced that he will soon be unmasked by Commissioner Porphyry...
A cabaret of the underworld, a court of conscience, rock music and psychedelic sounds: the Belgian company revisits this masterpiece of Russian literature and asks the question: what, ultimately, are we humanly responsible for?
A discussion with the artistic team will take place after the first performance.
