Welcome to the hypermarket of limitless possibilities! There are emotions with expiry dates, blind dates with serial killers, and multiple life plans in family packs. Lost in the maze of aisles, between bargain goods and brands, we drown in consumer choices. Who hasn’t been there? An existential crisis in the refrigerated section: low-fat or sugar rush? True love or bargain hunting? Old ladies searching for change at the checkout—always stuck in the wrong queue. HYSTERIKON is an ecstatic trip through the supermarket of life. With irony and sharp wit, Ingrid Lausund speaks of self-discipline and the challenges of decision-making in an increasingly complex society. In the endless circuit of the checkout conveyor belt, our desires, hopes, and abysses appear. Advertising slogans echo, the cashier’s voice merges with the one in our head. Everyday supermarket scenes escalate into collective hysteria. Everything has its price—especially life in turbo-capitalism.
