An impressive system of fortifications, which have almost entirely disappeared since the Treaty of London of 1867, once protected the Kirchberg and defended the fortress-city. Engineer Vauban, who oversaw the works during the siege in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to further reinforce the fortress. The museum offers guided tours lasting two hours to explore these fortifications.
