An impressive system of fortifications, almost entirely gone since the Treaty of London in 1867, defended Kirchberg and protected the fortress city. Engineer Vauban, who supervised the siege works in 1684, was tasked with developing a project to reinforce the fortress. The museum offers two-hour guided tours of these fortifications.
