The 2023 recipient of the Lëtzebuerger Danzpräis, Léa Tirabasso is known for creating choreographies using tension, visceral expression, and empirical investigation. When developing In the bushes, Tirabasso was guided by palaeontologist Henry Gee’s book The Accidental Species, which challenges the notion of humans being the pinnacle of evolution. She and her six dancers embrace humanity and its incoherencies, exploring questions of shame, stigma, and societal norms, and reveal our vulnerable selves with exuberant fervour. The work is accompanied by a new electronic score from Johanna Bramli and Ed Chivers that incorporates Brahms’ Schicksalslied, Op. 54.
