GirlsInAI4Good is an immersive workshop that invites girls aged 12 to 16 (with flexibility) to dive into the world of coding and artificial intelligence while tackling concrete challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a fun, collaborative, and inclusive approach, participants learn to use technology to imagine positive and meaningful solutions.
Before the workshop, the girls have access to a free online training kit that allows them to familiarize themselves with the basics of block coding, programming with the micro:bit board, the principles of artificial intelligence, and the steps involved in creating an AI for Good project. This preparation aims to boost their confidence and give them the tools to approach the workshop with ease.
On the day of the workshop, participants work in teams to design and prototype an AI for Good project, using the micro:bit board and the microbit CreateAI tool. The workshop is based on the 6E educational model, promoting engagement, experimentation, reflection, and empowerment of girls in STEM and AI fields.
The workshop will take the form of a six-hour hackathon (from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM). Time for reflection, accompanied by questionnaires at the beginning and end of the workshop, will allow participants to express their feelings, assess the development of their skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging to the STEM and artificial intelligence fields. A refreshment break will also be included to punctuate the day and offer participants a moment to connect and recharge before continuing with the experiments.
No prior knowledge of computer science or programming is required to participate.
