Opening up to the World: From Fortress to Open City
The Treaty of London of May 11, 1867 declared the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg a neutral and independent state. Leading international urban planners and architects helped transform the former fortress city into a capital open to the world. Merchants, industrialists, and political or religious exiles all contributed to forging the identity of a nation based on cooperation among residents. The guided tour tells the story of places, monuments, artworks, as well as public and private buildings.
