For a long time, the majestic tree in the inner courtyard of the Lëtzebuerg City Museum provided comforting shade to visitors on the terrace. Due to its poor health, the centuries-old tree had to be felled at the end of March 2022. The museum decided to keep parts of the trunk and invited artists to transform the wood into sculptures, thus perpetuating its memory through art. Eight sculptors took on this challenge: Jhemp Bastin, Pitt Brandenburger, Gérard Claude, Katarzyna Kot-Bach, Jean-Paul Thiefels, Laurent Turping, Wouter van der Vlugt, and Nadine Zangarini. The works are now part of the City of Luxembourg’s art collection.
