Russia – European Union: Diplomatic Mission in a Minefield
Meeting between two former ambassadors in Moscow: Pierre Lévy and Hubert Wurth. One is French: he first faced the pandemic before experiencing rising tensions, the radicalization of power, and then the outbreak of war on February 24, 2022. The other is Luxembourgish: he was ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1989 to 1991, a period marked by openness and modernization. The book "Au cœur de la Russie en guerre (2025)" by Pierre Lévy serves as the starting point for this discussion.
Pierre Lévy is a French diplomat, former director of the Center for Analysis and Forecasting, director for the European Union at the Quai d’Orsay, and ambassador to the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia. Hubert Wurth is a Luxembourgish diplomat, former ambassador to the Soviet Union, representative of Luxembourg at the United Nations, in France, the United Kingdom, and at the OECD, the OSCE, and UNESCO.
