For over four decades, William Christie and Les Arts Florissants have brought forgotten masterpieces from the archives back to the stage. This program includes three major motets by Jean-Philippe Rameau and Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville: sumptuous pieces of sacred music composed for the court of the King of France, spectacular, dramatic, and colorful. In other words, the blockbusters of their time—an ideal introduction to French Baroque music.
