Richard Strauss, in the first of his 10 Golden Rules to a young conductor, reminds us that every musical performance is a gift to the audience. Without a doubt, the Cleveland Orchestra will follow this precept during an evening entirely dedicated to the Austrian composer. Written at the end of his life and after World War II, the Four Last Songs are a poetic and contemplative tribute, while the Symphonia Domestica is an ode to family life, which Strauss greatly cherished.
