Totoro, Nausicaä, Chihiro and Ponyo probably would not have touched the popular imagination as deeply without Joe Hisaishi's lush music that accompanies the Studio Ghibli animated films. Although he is best known for his soundtracks, the Japanese musician is also a conductor and composer of orchestral pieces that, even when not accompanying images, are filled with captivating melodies.
