Urban sketching is an artistic practice that involves drawing scenes of urban life outdoors, both indoors and outdoors. Above all, urban sketching is about observation and capturing inspiration in the moment.
This on-the-spot sketching activity offers a unique way to observe, connect with, and capture your surroundings. It's an ideal technique for improving observational skills, sketching speed, creativity, and visual memory, and it's also a fun activity often done in groups.
There is always an opportunity to make a sketch, whether indoors; in a museum, a cafe or at home, or outdoors; in the city, in a natural environment, on a terrace or during a walk.
Urban Sketching is first and foremost a state of mind.
WORKSHOP with Mauro Doro
In two indoor/outdoor workshop sessions, we will learn to identify the inspiring location, to observe and capture the essence of the scene, to compose our drawing on the sheet, to start a drawing, to experiment, to organize a travel journal.
We will learn the simple basics of perspective, drawing tricks, shadows, light, watercolor coloring and black and white rendering.
Focusing on the essentials and not getting lost in the details is a good principle for beginners, as it allows you to concentrate on the essence of the scene. Through practice and experimentation, everyone can learn to create sketches that reflect their personal vision of the world, in accordance with their sensibilities and point of view.
