Temporary exhibition by Silke Markefka & Nikolai Vogel.

The feeling of crossing a border... Paintings and a border soundtrack from another era, when checkpoints and borders seemed to be gradually disappearing. An associative journey in 22 stations.

The project was created during a period of open borders between Germany and its neighboring countries, made possible by the Schengen Agreement and the abolition of border controls. And today, borders are once again being monitored and reactivated? The art project “To / after / beyond the border” reflects on the once-optimistic vision of an increasingly open world, while at the same time questioning history itself.

The exhibition is presented in an extraordinary setting: aboard the Prinzessin Marie-Astrid Europa, the historic ship where the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985.
