Political songs are not very well known in Luxembourg, but from the 19th century to today, there are many examples of writers and composers reacting to political and social issues in Luxembourg. In most cases, political songs are also highly critical, carrying a moral message or a call for change.
Political songs can usually be classified by their intended functions, such as combat and freedom songs, protest songs, workers' songs, songs of agitation, songs about war and peace, and so on.
That is why Georgely 2 aims to draw attention to this genre, so that the courageous voices of literature and music are not forgotten. This new song collection from the National Library includes 300 political songs taken from Luxembourg's history and politics.
