Under the direction of David Reiland, the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est unveils its full charms. There is sensuous color in Debussy’s sublime Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, featuring a flute solo and a passionate orchestra, immersing the audience in a dreamlike Sicilian sunlight. The same dreamlike magic returns with Unsuk Chin’s Clarinet Concerto; Chin, a Korean composer, was awarded the 2024 Ernst von Siemens Prize. Han Kim, soloist at the Opéra de Paris, will perform this demanding piece. The splendid program concludes with Stravinsky’s The Firebird, the first major masterpiece of the 27-year-old composer, which captivated Paris in 1910.
