The Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch returns to the Grand Théâtre with a double bill that the choreographer and dancer herself performed at the Cour d'honneur of the Festival d'Avignon in 1995. With Café Müller (1978), Pina Bausch created a monumental piece of strong emotional force accompanied by Purcell's music. In a café setting, six performers move with eyes closed, bumping into furniture, stumbling, grazing each other, supporting each other, revealing a faltering humanity. In Das Frühlingsopfer (1975) set to Stravinsky's famous score, the community draws together around the sacrifice of the Chosen One to enable the return of spring. Two major works where the choreographer explores vulnerability and collective strength. In the orchestra pit, we find soloists and the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg.
