What if opera finally stepped outside its walls? With Carmen, the company Maurice et les autres reinvents the masterpiece by Georges Bizet into an immersive, vivid and deeply contemporary experience. Here, there is no traditional stage or red velvet curtain: the show unfolds in public space, as part of a journey where the audience becomes a traveler. Guided from one place to another, you move through the landscapes of the work—the square, the tavern, the arena—each a living tableau. Music surrounds you, bodies brush past, glances meet. You no longer watch the story: you are part of it. Carmen is much more than a famous opera. It's a tale of freedom, desire, and violence, disturbingly relevant to our times. Brought to life by a troupe of actors, singers, and musicians, this itinerant version intertwines theater, music and performance in a collective, joyful and engaged spirit. Directed by Jeanne Desoubeaux, the staging transforms the space into a poetic and political playground, where each location becomes scenery, each movement part of the dramaturgy. Conceived as an “opera-landscape”, the show invites you to look and feel together in new ways, making theater a place of meeting at the heart of the world.
