On his way to Vienna to study with great composers, young Beethoven receives a letter from his patron: "Receive from the hands of Haydn the spirit of Mozart." Every musical legacy balances self-transmission and the effacement of temporality. Some influential figures remain hidden in their disciples’ compositions. Orchestration, style, and writing gesture reveal a master's influence without concealing emerging talent. This musical program explores the relationships between artists throughout the ages. Mozart and Beethoven both studied under Haydn, and later, Poulenc seems to follow in their footsteps with his Haydn-inspired Sinfonietta. To open the OCL season, Mariano Chiacchiarini will conduct and Joseph Moog will perform on piano.
