In Italian with a touch of French, German, English, Latin and Venetian. Live music! The incredible life of Lorenzo Da Ponte—abbé, libertine, man of letters, Mozart’s librettist, Casanova’s friend and pioneer of Italian identity in America—will be presented through a series of scenes that are by turns hilarious, piquant and melancholic, accompanied by musical interludes drawn from the great operatic repertoire or composed for the occasion. This event, held under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Luxembourg, is part of “Italian Language Week in the World.” It is organised by the Municipality of Hesperange in collaboration with the Hesperange Cultural Commission and the Circolo Curiel. Active since 2004, the Teatrolingua group (19 actors of 11 different nationalities) has presented works by authors such as Pirandello, De Filippo, Machiavelli, Goldoni, Gozzi and Tofano, as well as theatrical adaptations of works such as The Divine Comedy, Orlando Furioso, The Decameron, Zeno’s Conscience, The Perelà Code, Mrs Haroy or the Memory of the Whale, and several creations by Luisella Suberni Piccoli. It takes part in international festivals and organises tours in Italy and other European countries.
