Both author and screenwriter, Carine Hazan takes inspiration from a letter written by her grandmother, recounting the meeting with a German man in the Australian Alps in 2003, to create a captivating thriller: Vies et survies d’Elisabeth Halpern (Phébus, 2025). This crime story blends the fictional murder of a former Nazi officer with the life story of her grandmother, a Jewish woman born in Ukraine who settled in Australia.
