Schengen invites to the traditional “Hunnefeier”, which marks the end of the annual grape harvest! The ancient custom of the “Hunnefeier” comes from the tradition that on the last day of the grape harvest, a living cock was tied to the end of the last row of vines to be harvested. The quickest winegrower would win the cock as a prize. This custom has since been replaced: every year, a new limited edition of the “Schengener Hinnchen” (chicken of Schengen) is crafted by a different artist. This clay cockerel is a truly unique souvenir! Once you have your “Hinnchen”, you can enjoy the large flea and craft market with over 100 stalls, international street artists, an exhibition of historic tractors, and live music. There’s also the chance to taste local wines, Crémants, and the regional “Fiederwäissen” and “Fiederrouden” for a first taste of this year’s vintage.
