"Burn, baby, burn." In 1976, The Trammps’ refrain set dance floors ablaze. Fifty years later, Guillaume Côté hears it differently. On a stage steeped in deep reds and thick fog, nine performers – their hands gloved in scarlet – leap, collide, sometimes falter, only to come back stronger in a movement that keeps building. From the lines of classical ballet, the Canadian choreographer draws a fiercely athletic dance where delicate gestures rub against untamed exuberance – a signature already at work in X (Dix), presented in 2024. Through eruptions, suspensions, and blazing accelerations, Burn Baby, Burn unsettles the disco slogan’s festive energy, letting the urgency of a slowly smouldering world show through.
