A mother, a daughter, and a son in an apartment in St. Louis. Three solitudes, three vulnerabilities, and the same fragile hope for another life—until the evening when the table is set for a guest. The Glass Menagerie portrays the family confined together: Amanda and her two adult children, Laura and Tom. Amanda, trapped by an idealized past, Tom, a would-be poet working in a shoe warehouse, and Laura, isolated by shyness, all wait for change. A dinner brings Jim O’Connor, the 'gentle, ordinary young man' whom Laura secretly loved. But this hope, too, proves fragile. Autobiographical in nature, The Glass Menagerie invents the memory play: in Tom’s memory, Tennessee Williams conjures the ghosts of the past. Directed by Myriam Muller.
