Show & CultureShow & Culture

At the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, composers John Dowland and Diomedes Cato embodied a musical Europe in which artists, ideas and styles travelled far beyond political borders. Through their works and those of their contemporaries, this programme highlights the many influences that shaped the Renaissance lute repertoire. A musical journey exploring a rich, cosmopolitan and surprisingly modern European heritage. Karl Nyhlin – Renaissance lute Swedish lutenist Karl Nyhlin has an international career as a soloist and continuo player on the lute, theorbo and early guitar. Trained in Stockholm, Malmö and then at Indiana University Bloomington with Nigel North on a Fulbright scholarship, he has performed in more than thirty-five countries with internationally renowned ensembles including Les Talens Lyriques and B’Rock Orchestra. Invited to major festivals, concert halls and opera houses in Europe and beyond, he has also taken part in around fifty recordings and released two solo albums devoted to the lute repertoire.
