Music in the Valley Festival - The Song of Cathedrals

- music
Since 1992, the ensemble Diabolus in Musica has explored the vast repertoire of medieval music. Under the direction of Nicolas Sansarlat, the musicians share and brilliantly highlight the beauty of a resplendent and astonishing musical art, to which they are so deeply committed to giving meaning today. With a particular affinity for the repertoire of the Notre-Dame school and that of the trouvères, the ensemble’s vitality is nourished as much by discoveries of previously unknown musical works as by the great pages of the medieval repertoire. Whether exploring the works of the indispensable Guillaume de Machaut or those of the more obscure Guillaume Faugues, Diabolus in Musica is always seeking to deepen its understanding of the music being performed, both from a musicological and an interpretive perspective. The ensemble is therefore interested in the context surrounding the music of the period, the links between copyists and musicians or between politics and music, as well as the social status of musicians, and everything that music touched upon at the time.
