As part of the exhibition “Grand tourists to Turner. Artistes britanniques en Europe. 1750-1850”, a lecture with cultural historian Jean-Claude Muller. The lecture explores William Pars’s visit to the Igel Column in 1774 and J.M.W. Turner’s visits to Luxembourg Fortress in 1824 and 1839. It looks at Turner’s sketches made on site and the watercolours he later painted in London for a travel guide.
