Letizia Romanini (born 1980 in Esch-sur-Alzette) lives and works in Luxembourg. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts in 2006, she enrolled at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg, graduating in 2009 from the Object / Flexible Materials specialism led by Edith Dekyndt. Driven by a desire to share her knowledge and engage in collaborative creation, she completed her training in 2018 at the CFPI – Centre de formation des plasticiens intervenants at the HEAR (Haute école des arts du Rhin, Strasbourg). Since 2010, her work has been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Italy, Austria, Armenia, the Grand Est region and across the Greater Region (Germany, France, Luxembourg, Belgium). Letizia Romanini has also taken part in several international residency programmes: Berlin, Saarbrücken, Vienna and Vilnius, including the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin in 2018 and the Cité internationale des arts, Paris in 2022. In the same year, she was awarded a grant for the creation and dissemination of photography by the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel (CNA), which enabled her to publish her first book, 356, in collaboration with Pétrole Éditions. Her work is featured in the collections of the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture, the two museums of the City of Luxembourg, and the Artothèque de la Ville de Strasbourg. She is represented by the Reuter Bausch gallery in Luxembourg. The artist’s practice spans photography, sculpture and installation; Letizia Romanini develops a practice that focuses on the fragile forms of living things, ordinary landscapes and the traces left by time. Her work is rooted in observation, walking and collecting, as ways of inhabiting and interpreting a territory. The Circulation as a Motif project emerged from an overland journey undertaken between Luxembourg and Armenia. In Yerevan, the artist developed a walking protocol inspired by the Arevakhach, an Armenian solar symbol, in order to explore the city from its centre outwards to its peripheries. Photographs, sound recordings and collected objects now form a vast body of work currently being organised and connected. Through this research, Letizia Romanini explores the links between territories, memory, perception and the coexistence of species. Her work blends documentary approaches with visual experimentation to bring forth new, sensitive and multisensory narrative forms.
