In the shadowy underworld of 18th-century Paris, where money rules, Manon falls in love with the student Des Grieux. Torn between the prospect of an honest life and the temptations of high society, she struggles to survive. In his adaptation of Abbé Prévost’s novel, Kenneth MacMillan places Manon’s inner conflict and struggle for survival at the heart of this Royal Ballet production. Jules Massenet’s score and Nicholas Georgiadis’ staging underline the decadence and decline of Manon’s Paris.
