In 1845, Luxembourg City Council opened a municipal music school, enabling girls and young women from all social backgrounds to study and teach music. At the school’s concerts, young women even performed in public, which was still strongly frowned upon in the 19th century. Musicologist Danielle Roster presents her research on the teachers, pupils and controversies of the period. Béatrice Rauchs performs piano works by Joséphine Schmoll, Edmond de Lafontaine (Dicks) and Clara Schumann, who performed in Luxembourg in the 19th century.
