Art Detectives - A Five-Week Art Course for Children Aged 7-11 Why are there angry rabbits in medieval books? How can a painting trick you into walking into a wall? What makes an everyday object become art? In Art Detectives, children explore unusual questions through art history, discussion and practical art-making. Each session starts with an investigation and leads to a creation of original artwork. We’ll explore medieval manuscripts, Renaissance perspective, Barocco light and shadow, Cubism and other modern styles, and finish with Contemporary art. Children can share ideas, observe or sketch before joining the conversation. Each receives a personal detective case file to collect clues, experiments and discoveries throughout the course. The course is led by Maria Fokina, founder of Art Kid, an artist and arts educator with nearly nine years of experience working with children. She is currently completing a master’s in Arts Education Practice at Dublin City University.
